Hula day

I took a day off today and went fishing. It's high summer now, and I believe poppers and chuggers are best for this season. I first caught a nice bass with a Chugger Spook before dawn.

Then I changed lures to a Hula Popper in orange/red coachdog color, and kept using it with so called "slow and steady" method. This surprisingly worked fine, and I got a lot of bites.

I felt greatly pleased to be able to catch multiple fish, but for some reason I decided to keep fishing a little more (maybe it clouded over). I cast it just near a fallen tree, waited until all the water ripples disappeared, and gave popping actions very slowly and steadily to irritate bass. A big bang! A big bass grabbed my Hula Popper, and rampaged to put up a great battle. I immediately felt it was the big fish I had to catch by all means. It fought hard, but I finally caught it. It was a 4 or 4-1/4 lb class nice bass (my season's best).

After I caught this fish, I tried Original Zara Spooks I've recently got. They also worked fine, and I could catch more bass. It was a great fishing day to be able to catch a total of eight bass (and a bluegill) in a day.

Long trail

I ran and walked 43km (approximately 27 miles) through the trails of Rokko Mountains today, as one of the workouts for the ultra-marathon in Sep. Too exhausted.

One bass with Pico Pop

It's been too hot these days. I could catch only one bass with a Pico Pop that my good friend gave to me the other day.

I recently got some nice lures, and I tried them for fishing today. One of them is an Original Zara Spook in MG (Musky Gold) color. When I got it, a lot of glitters were over-coated by the previous owner over the original paint, and I had a hard time to remove them. I finally cleaned it and now it looks very similar to the original one. MG is one of my favorite colors in Heddon lures, and I like this lure very much too.

Today's tackle: ABU Ambassadeur 5500CA, Jackson BB Now BN-160ML w/ STTS grip, Daiwa Sight Surf #4, Heddon Original Zara Spook, Chugger Spook, Lucky 13, Pico Pop, Harrison Frog, etc.

After hard work

I was too busy working during this past weekdays, but it's Saturday today. I got up before 03:00 am and of course went fishing.

I got some bites, but this is the only one I could hook up. Though not so big, but this bass showed a super nice blow-up on my Pico Pop. The color name of this lure is "Gold Bass", by which I could catch a nice gold bass. Perfect!

On the way back home, I fished another pond just for fun. There, a small green bass bit my gold bass bait. I could have a nice fishing Saturday today.

Muddy water after heavy rain

We had heavy rain yesterday, and I was afraid ponds and lakes around my place got muddier than usual. Not surprisingly, water conditions I visited were too bad. In the first pond, I got no bites just before I finished fishing there. I was using chartreuse and hot tiger lures to match the muddy condition, but it didn't work at all, so I changed to a black one, Heddon Wounded Spook in XBW color, to enhance contrast. Then, I could finally got a hit and could catch a small bass in the last spot I cast.

In the second pond, fishing was slow, too, though only bluegill were active. They pecked my frog a lot of time, and I was confused to see which one was that of bass. When I set ha hook hard, a small bluegill was hooked with a single hook of my frog. This was the first time in my fishing life to catch a bluegill with a single-hooker weedless frog.

By the way, I recently bought a new fishing tool. It is a portable case for wasted lines. I always put wasted (cut) lines in my tackle box, and had to clean it after I get home. This tool is nice to keep both your box and field clean!
