Big bass caught with SGA

Wow, he (the owner of Retrom) did it. He sent me pictures of bass he caught with a SGA Pico Pop, one of my special order lures. This bass must have been a good fighter.

This cute fish was also attracted by the same lure.

Regarding the special lures in KCH and SGA, I received inquiries from some people, so I made a short page in Japanese. Let me get into a talk about them.  Here it is.

By the way, MAEYAMA CUSTOM Fishing Derby is about to start. If you catch a bass with a MAEYAMA CUSTOM Pico Pop in June, send him a photo of the fish and yourself. If you win, you can get a nice reel, lure, or something like that. See details from here.

On your marks

Get set, and ... They're still in a tub in my house (or I should say TAKE your marks, since they're in the water).

I first thought I would replace the red feather hook to a white one, but I changed my mind. I have never tried a red tail before, and I'd like to give it a shot. I'm looking forward to it.

I also altered one of my new lures, Fred Arbogast Buzz Plug. I removed the original double hook on the tail, and then attached a split ring, a swivel, another sprit ring, and a treble hook. Then, I covered the swivel with a white/chartreuse flat rubber skirt, just as regular buzzbaits. I'd like to cast it in Lake Biwa and catch a big fish.

New Pico is light

Fish were slow, that's all. One lucky thing I found today was that I saw a few big (I may say huge) bass swimming in a pond where I have only caught very small ones. I'd like to catch them next time I go there.

By the way, I was feeling some of new Pico Pops very light in weight. Today, I compared them with an old one (black/silver foil) on the water surface. The floating position of one of mine (RH, MAEYAMA CUSTOM) was totally different from the old one, though that of the KCH was almost the same as the old one.

I weighed them after I got back. As I suspected, the RH was 1.5-1.7g (ca. 1/16 oz) lighter than old ones. I was thinking this would happen, and, how thoroughly prepared, I was setting aside plenty of PICO spare dressed hooks in one of my tackle boxes. I'd like to replace them to increase the weight, and try them next time.

Today's tackle: ABU 5000 DeLuxe, Fenwick 2053, Stren 14lb (Hi-Vis Gold), Heddon Zara Spook, Wounded Spook, Lucky 13, etc.

Busy day (just tired was all)

On a Shinkansen, through Nagoya station,
I headed to the east. Yes, my destination was Yokohama.
You may find a lot of beautiful places to walk around there.

However, I went right back on the same day after joining a meeting. I could have stayed longer, at least one night, but it was not so easy for me.

Logo on the belly

One of my good friends asked me about my lures, and this picture may be a help. They're marked just 'PICO POP' on the belly, not on the back.

Work fine?

I should say, "Of course they do. I always put one or two in my tackle box. Don't think seriously. Just FEEL and cast it. Not all, but some bass really like such chuggin' baits."

Below are some fish I caught with Pico Pops before.

MAEYAMA CUSTOM lures

As I mentioned before, I ordered special lures from Pico, but this project was not only mine. We (by we, I mean a close friend of mine and I) had developed an idea since last year, planned the designs, and have finally got all of our lures. By any chance, are you interested in his lures? If so, you should drive to RETROM, shouldn't you? You can find and pick up a dozen of different colors there. All of these lures are marked 'PICO POP (or PICO)' and 'MAEYAMA CUSTOM' on the body.

And, a few more nice colors.

Some of my colors (KCH, Muskellunge, and SGA, Jim Pfeffer's Spotted Ape) may be available there, too. I also have some extras for trade or sale with myself (but not so many). If you're interested in my colors, email me to kchandsga@gmail.com, or other addresses of mine that you've already known.

Finally...

I did so look forward to this warm rain with south wind. I started fishing at 04:30 early in the morning, but did get no bites during the first one hour. I almost gave up catching a fish this time again, but when I cast a Pico Pop a few inches away from a fallen tree and gave it a pause for a couple of minutes, this huge bass suddenly grabbed it. I strongly set the hook, enjoyed the fight, and carefully landed her. She was much bigger than I expected, and weighed about 5lb!

Because of the rain drops on the lens of my camera, and maybe partly because I was a little excited, it was very difficult for me to take pictures. I also wanted to let her go as soon as possible. I was very happy to finally start my fishing season of this year.

By the way, the lure I fished this time is one of the special lures I recently ordered from Pico. Last night, I got it from a new package, and sharpened the hooks. I'm wondering if I should put it into my 'the Hall of Fame' tackle box, though I have used it only once today.

Today's tackle: ABU Record 5000 (BLK), Phillipson Challenger (9055 rebuilt), Stren 14lb (clear/blue fluorescent), Pico Pop, Heddon Zara Spook, Lucky 13, Wounded Spook, etc.
