After hard work

I was too busy working during this past weekdays, but it's Saturday today. I got up before 03:00 am and of course went fishing.

I got some bites, but this is the only one I could hook up. Though not so big, but this bass showed a super nice blow-up on my Pico Pop. The color name of this lure is "Gold Bass", by which I could catch a nice gold bass. Perfect!

On the way back home, I fished another pond just for fun. There, a small green bass bit my gold bass bait. I could have a nice fishing Saturday today.

The mountain in labor

I climbed a hill area on foot carrying my float tube to find a clear pond, but this is only bass I caught.

Muddy water after heavy rain

We had heavy rain yesterday, and I was afraid ponds and lakes around my place got muddier than usual. Not surprisingly, water conditions I visited were too bad. In the first pond, I got no bites just before I finished fishing there. I was using chartreuse and hot tiger lures to match the muddy condition, but it didn't work at all, so I changed to a black one, Heddon Wounded Spook in XBW color, to enhance contrast. Then, I could finally got a hit and could catch a small bass in the last spot I cast.

In the second pond, fishing was slow, too, though only bluegill were active. They pecked my frog a lot of time, and I was confused to see which one was that of bass. When I set ha hook hard, a small bluegill was hooked with a single hook of my frog. This was the first time in my fishing life to catch a bluegill with a single-hooker weedless frog.

By the way, I recently bought a new fishing tool. It is a portable case for wasted lines. I always put wasted (cut) lines in my tackle box, and had to clean it after I get home. This tool is nice to keep both your box and field clean!

Crazy Crawler

It's in the middle of rainy season here, and I like fishing under calm rain condition. It was about to rain this morning, and I couldn't but go fishing before going to work. All I could spare for fishing was only one hour, so I started with a fast-moving bait, Heddon Crazy Crawler. Just about 10 minutes after I begun, a big blow-up occurred and this nice bass hit my bait. It was a good fighter, and I had a hard time to catch it. It took much longer than usual but finally I could catch it. Nice fat bass, isn't it?

Super Frog

I started fishing in a muddy pond. I got two bites there and one of them was a very big blow-up that volleyed my Zara Spook one foot above the water. Anyway, I got skunked there and in another nearby pond as well.

Then, I visited a clearer pond for a change. Immediately I could catch a small bass and a bluegill with a Chugger Spook in an open area.

I made my floating-tube way to a weedy area, and I changed lures to a weedless frog (an old Harrison's Super Frog). I cast it and let it pause until all  the water ripples disappeared. In the meantime, I saw a big bullfrog start to chase my frog. When I gave a few small actions to my frog, the bullfrog came nearer and near, but I felt it gave up jumping into my frog after careful consideration. Before I knew the reason, a big bass hit my frog and pulled it into water. I set a hook and fought with it for a while, and finally caught it. Now, I believe the bullfrog saw the bass underwater and hesitated to turn a prey over the bass. Otherwise, the bass made haste to eat my frog before the bullfrog hit it. Anyway, it was a lot of fun to fish with a plastic frog on weedy area during this season of the year.

Three bass in a day

It's Sunday today, and I started fishing very early in the morning (04:15 am). I was in a mood to use Zara Spooks, as I believe they work fine when bass are in recovery phase from spawning.

It's out of common for me, but I used only three lures today (all were Zara Spooks). I could get seven bites, and caught three bass in about two hours. Enough to realize how enjoyable topwater bass fishing is!

Today's tackle: ABU Ambassadeur 5000C, Fenwick Boron-X 953M, Stren Clear-blue 14lb, Heddon Zara Spook (RH), Zara Spook (NBL) and Zara Spook (BF).

Daytime bass

I took a day off today. I was thinking to go to a big lake or down south to enjoy fishing a whole day, but I had to give it up due to a morning chore.

I visited two ponds very early in the morning, but got no bites at all. Then, I got back to finish the chore, took breakfast, and then went fishing in a different place. It was shiny, and the sun was already above my head. Under these conditions, it's difficult to catch bass in open areas, so I tried to cast my baits into small shadow spots overhung with trees ore vegetation.

The first bite was on my Wounded Spook in bull frog color. I got a small blow-up, set a hook, and caught the fish without any difficulties.

As I was afraid, I got no reactions at all in open areas in the pond, so I changed lures to a Crazy Crawler. I drove it into smaller shadow spots and kept giving it subtle throbbing actions. Suddenly, I got a nice bite and set a hook immediately to let the fish be apart from the fallen trees. The fish was bigger than I expected, and was a good fighter.

After I finished fishing all the areas in this pond, I visited two more ponds but got skunked there. I got tired to go around many places, it was a good fishing day.

Another nice bass

I received a beautiful lure from a good friend of mine several days ago, and I couldn't wait to cast it. Fortunately, it started to rain calmly early this morning, so I decided to go fishing in a pond near my house before going to work.

I could spare only one hour, though I started before the sun rose. I first checked the pond widely using a Heddon Wounded Spook, but got no hits at all. Then, I changed lures to this lure (named Jutting Joe). I cast it between submerged branches of a fallen tree, let it pause a few seconds, and then gave it a few darting actions. How nicely it worked! I got a bite with a lot of blowing-up splash, and a nice bass strongly pulled my line to fight with me. It was not so long, but a fat muscular bass. I pleased myself to catch it, and headed home as soon as I released it.

Nice 5 lb. bass

Today, I visited an area a little far from my house. We had short-time but heavy rainfalls on Wednesday and Thursday, so water there got too muddy. Under such conditions, I believe chartreuse or black color works best. I tied a chartreuse Zara Spook and started fishing.

My hunch proved right!  My bait disappeared from my sight as soon as I saw a big explosion with heavy vacuuming sound on the water surface. I immediately found it a big bass. It was a very hard fighter, but I finally caught it. I guess the fish tried to bite my bait from the head part, and the line-tie eye reached throat of the fish. This fish (about 5lb in weight) is my seasonal biggest one, and I headed home on a high note.

Today's tackle: ABU Ambassadeur 5000C (1975, beveled rims), Phillipson #705, Stren clear-blue 12lb, Heddon 2nd Zara Spook, Wounded Spook, Bass Oreno, etc.

It's almost June

It's almost June. I went fishing several times in May, but couldn't catch so many nice bass. I'd like to just leave some photos for my record.
