Looks strange?

It's been blazing hot these days. I grab a beer almost every night.
Speaking of beer, Heddon Big Bud is a novelty lure of Budweiser.

Does this Big Bud look strange? Hard to say from this picture.

See the back side of the lip. Yes, it is marked differently. The printing direction is totally different from usual ones, and red around the mouth is sprayed nearer to the lip tip. This may be a test model or a factory error product, but now I've got it in my collection.

Japanese whiting fishing

It's a very calm day, and we went fishing in the nearby sea. Our target was Japanese whiting, a kind of Smelt-whiting fishes. It is a very popular summer fishing here, and very good to eat. See this link.

You can catch them by surf fishing, but can catch larger ones when you fish offshore. This time, we fished from my Canadian canoe. It was my first time to paddle on the sea, and we prepared fully to get wet. We used old cheap fishing tackle, which we don't miss in case of loss. We wore PDF, and loaded spare paddles and some floating devices such as floating cushions and ice boxes on the canoe. Fortunately, the water surface was smooth and no strong wind blew at all.

We enjoyed the fishing a lot, and caught many Japanese whiting, multi-colorfin rainbowfish, and some other species. After getting home, I cleaned them up and cooked for some dishes. Sliced raw fish (sashimi) and fried fish (tenpura) were especially great, as well as roasted ones.

Nice fish

I got up at 02:50 AM today, and left home at 03:30 to go fishing.
I was already on the water before dawn, and wanted to start fishing as soon as possible. I, however, had a very hard time to tie line on my lure. This is partly because of my aging eyes, and partly because of the visibility of my lines. This year, I'm out of Stren Hi-Vis Gold lines in stock, so I use Low-Vis Green ones most of the time. For me, Hi-Vis Gold is much better all in all.

At last, I could start fishing. I fished with a Heddon Big Bud during dark hours, and changed lures one by one. My favorite lures such as Original Zara Spook and Chugger Spook didn't work fine.

At around 04:40, I long-cast a Pico Slasher into a shallow shore area (ca. 1ft depth), give it a long pause, and softly twitched it a few time. Then, a big blow-up occurred. The water splash was so big that I was afraid a catfish. It was a good fighter, and, fortunately, it was a bass. I got a real kick out of catching it.

Today's tackle: ABU Ambassdeur 5000 De Luxe, Fenwick SP634, Stren 14lb (Low-Vis Green), Heddon Big Bud, Original Zara Spook, Chugger Spook, Timber Rattler Minnow, Hula Popper, Pico Slasher, etc.
